Helping Fathers held its first annual dart tournament on Saturday, sponsored by the Eagles, Play-Mor, Bruce Thurmond and the Oak Grove Shooting Supplies. Helping Fathers is a new non-profit organization for fathers and their families, assisting families in conflict and reminding fathers of their rights and responsibilities. UPDATE 3: Luke Mayer ran for a 45-yard touchdown with 10:40 left in the game to give Sullivan a 26-12 lead.
Lucas Budnik subsequently hit Phillip Wright for a 45-yard touchdown pass 19 seconds later.
Budnik completed another touchdown pass to Wright with 2:38 left, but the Bearcats could not get the ball back.
Both Mayer and Wright had four touchdowns to lead their respective teams.

Tomorrow night’s Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. at Sullivan High School.
Sullivan will scrimmage against St. James and Houston.
Pacific, Salem and Rolla will be on the opposite side of the field scrimmaging against one another.
Admission is $2 for adults; $1 for students.

Daniel Schatz’s passing last Thursday left the area in shock.
It was less than two years ago that Schatz was slinging passes to Cody Davis, Ryan Restemayer, James Phillips, Zach Mesey and Chris Frye; racking up big yards and big points.
The 2008 team, with Schatz under center, was the best Sullivan team of the decade.

The Sullivan Eagles football team began practices on Monday for the 2010 season.
With the sudden and tragic death of former quarterback Daniel Schatz, who helped lead the Eagles to the state semifinals two years ago, the season begins with heavy hearts.
Schatz’s funeral on Monday morning meant players did not start practicing until that evening.
This year’s seniors were sophomores that year, and will no doubt carry Schatz in their hearts and minds this season.

The Sullivan Fire Department continues to help raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness and will hold a benefit softball tournament on Sat., Aug. 14.
According to Sullivan Fire Chief Rich White, this fundraiser is an ongoing effort of the firefighters this summer and fall to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research.

Coach Pat Burke, staff and players hosted a junior Eagles football camp last week for students in grades 4-8. The camp was held July 26-28 and focused on the fundamentals. Players also got instruction on passing, punting, blocking, receiving and tackling.
Sullivan’s schedule will look a lot different in 2010.
After getting the bump to Class 4, the Eagles will be grouped with Union, St. Clair and Pacific in districts. Union is a perennial playoff contender and Pacific’s 2009 season was one of the best the team has had in years.
Sullivan will open the season up in Hermann, where they face a Bearcats squad that they dominated 25-7 last August.

This tournament will benefit over 3,000 people and 22 agencies in the South Central Missouri Region.

The Ninth District Junior Legion All-Stars will play for bragging rights on Saturday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark when the south meets the north.
Washington Post 218 will be the most represented for the south division. Three players will be in the starting lineup from Post 218.
Jack Kopman will start at third base. Kopman batted .318 for Post 218 and was second on the team with 29 RBIs.
