Students from the Bourbon Seventh-day Adventist School recently visited the office of Leonard Armstrong, mayor of Bourbon. The trip was a part of the students’ study of local government.
We talked to the mayor and asked him a lot of questions about Bourbon government.

Bourbon Middle School royalty was crowned at the annual Student Council Sweethearts Dance on Feb. 19. Duchess, Roxanne Rafter; Queen, Kathryn Rapp; King, Lex Jett; and Duke, Mitchell Jannings, are all shown with the crown bearer, Bryan Payne.
Students in Mrs. Jenkins First Grade reading class at Strain-Japan are so eager to show off their reading skills that they take turns reading to the principal, Dr. Marilyn Boeh. Dr. Boeh enjoys listening to the students read to her and she awards each student with an “Eager Reader” certificate.

During the month of February, the first grade students at St. Anthony School learned about the Presidents. They found out what the President’s job entails and facts about past Presidents. They made an Abraham Lincoln log cabin and a George Washington three cornered hat. The students enjoyed learning about the Presidents and the history of the United States.
The Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District recently announced the theme for its 2010 poster and trash art contest. This year’s theme is “Be Green! Keep the Planet Clean.”
This is the 18th year that Ozark Rivers has sponsored the contest. Students attending public and private schools in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski or Washington counties are eligible to participate. Home-schooled students in the seven-county area are also encouraged to participate.

On February 4th, 139 students received award tags from Mr. Starhawk for perfect attendance during the month of January. The January Starhawks of the month were recognized with a certificate, a pencil and breakfast with the principal on Thursday, January 28th.

The Kindergarten class at Strain-Japan School creates a “Hugs & Kisses” wall each year at Valentine’s Day time.
The students write a personal Valentine wish for every student and staff member at the school and attaches them to the wall outside the classroom. Everyone looks forward to finding their special card and getting their “kiss” (Hershey’s, that is).

Mrs. Doza’s second grade class has been studying the different states of matter. Their most recent experiment was interesting and very smelly, just the way they like them. They took two uncooked eggs and placed them into vinegar. They watched these eggs for several days. They observed many little bubbles rising from the eggs!
