My Thoughts Pay Attention To What You Write, Dummy!

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 14:18

By James Bartle,
Editor
For months now, I have been covering the thefts from unlocked vehicles in the City of Sullivan - more than 65 in the last three months or so - and each time I write these reports, I remind residents to lock their vehicles.
Police state that more often thieves target unlocked vehicles because of their easy access and quick manner in which they can enter the vehicle unlawfully and take what they want and [...]

Barack Obama’s Enemy?

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 11:31

Dear Editor:
Obama is dropping like a boat anchor in the polls and he refuses to accept good advice from his own people. Who knows, he may single-handedly destroy the Democrat Party. And in its present form, as it is leading us more toward European Socialism, it may be what’s best. Democrat heads must be spinning.
Look for more “boooing of the FLOTUS and POTUS as the election draws closer. He has trashed everything that grassroots America [...]

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 11:29

Dear Editor:
Jim, John, Bob, Sam, KTUI, Eagles, etc.
Oh, what a tremendous meal the Eagles served for the Home Alone, etc. Oh, so good! We should all be thankful and praise God.
Thanksgiving is never remembered. After Halloween comes Christmas, which is awful Christmas songs you hear everywhere.
Sullivan, MO is a great town and the people are always there to help and give. All the organizations are always there.
Everyone bow your heads and say a prayer.
God bless.
A [...]

Are You Living In The Kingdom Of God Or Satan?

Tuesday, December 6, 2011 12:22

Dear Editor:
Whether we realize it or not, each one of us living on earth is living either in the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Satan. In order to remain in the Kingdom of Satan, we don’t have to do anything. But if we want to become a part of the Kingdom of God, we must obey the commands of Jesus Christ as found in our Bibles.
So, what did Jesus have to say about [...]

What Europe And America Have In Common

Tuesday, November 29, 2011 13:03

Dear Editor:
Europe and the USA have many things in common, one of which noted currently is the massive debt crisis both are experiencing because of politicians who fail to learn from history.
George Santayana noted that those who fail to learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.
In both Europe and the United States, power-hungry politicians have been trying to buy votes with money we don’t have, taxing not only this generation [...]

Behind Closed Refrigerator Doors

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 10:38

By Denny Banister,
Assistant Director of
Public Affairs for the
Missouri Farm Bureau
I read an article on a popular medical Internet site recently listing what the author considered the “10 Worst Foods in Your Fridge.”  It quickly became obvious to me the author has not seen inside my refrigerator.  I have every one of the 10 in my fridge, but they are nowhere near the worst.
The author included such items as mayonnaise, claiming it is white and goopy. [...]

Who Is Jesus Christ? Savior And Redeemer

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 10:37

Dear Editor:
Who is Jesus Christ? This is a question each one of us needs to ask ourselves. Is He simply a good man who once lived on earth who used his life to help others? Or, is Jesus truly the Son of God?
If Jesus is just a good man who did much to help those in need, He is much to be admired. Still, there are others who have lived on earth who also have [...]

Please Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover

Tuesday, November 1, 2011 11:28

Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter to those who have written letters in your newspaper claiming they know people who should not be receiving disability payments because they don’t look like they have anything wrong with them.
My message to these naysayers is this: “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” I say this because I am one of those people who don’t appear to have anything wrong with me.
In my case, looks are very deceiving [...]

Cutting Saturday Delivery No Answer To Postal Dilemma

Tuesday, October 18, 2011 10:02

Dear Editor:
To ensure its future, the United States Postal Service (USPS) must do more than seek short-term fixes to its long-term financial problems. Year after year, the United States Postal Service continues to raise postal rates to cover its growing expenses without adequately addressing its significant underlying organizational and operational issues. Instead, it is offering to cut service by eliminating Saturday mail delivery.
These are complex problems requiring a comprehensive plan. Cuts in delivery service should [...]

Pork - The Other What? Meat

Tuesday, October 11, 2011 11:34

Dear Editor:
Most of us who lived in the 1950s and earlier recall the wonderful aroma of pork roasting in the oven for dinner. The roast would emerge nicely browned, succulent and moist, with lots of pan drippings to make a fantastic gravy for the mashed potatoes. Today, unless you eat at a restaurant, it is next to impossible to achieve the same result with pork. So, what has happened since then?
We can start to understand [...]
