Dear Editor,
Do I understand this correctly?
When students don’t learn properly, it is the teachers’ faults, is it? Even when their parents are the first generation immigrants, hence often academically disadvantaged? to help with the homework?
So instead of assisting teachers, students and parents, a certain Rhode Island school district administration has decided to fire all teachers?
Hmmm, I wonder how many will apply for the teaching job for the coming school year—probably zero!
Now let’s apply this logic [...]
Dear Editor,
Sullivan council members are once again working toward hiring an
economic developer because according to the council “they have
budgeted to do so”. This raises many questions and a need for
correcting some fundamental problems in my view. I have serious
concerns and questions regarding the need to hire an economic
developer in Sullivan.
As a property owner/tax payer in Sullivan, with employees and family
tied to this City as well, I have an immense interest in what goes on
in Sullivan. [...]
Dear Editor,
Many seniors over 65 are not taking advantage of a tax credit of up to $1,100 if they own or $750 if they rent. Even those living in assisted living qualify. The amount of allowable income has raised and seniors’ interest on their investments has dropped, so that many who didn’t qualify before, now qualify!

I spent 22 years defending America against enemies both foreign and domestic. We did well against foreign enemies, to discover that the domestic enemies were destroying the Constitutional Republic.
Our Founding Fathers wrote our Constitution, which most, if not all, people can understand. Just a few pages of “genius” on paper, never seen before or since. But, our government produces bills of a thousand pages or more that can’t be read or understood by the very [...]
Dear Editor,
I, like many residents here in Sullivan, believe we should get what we pay for. Such a statement—I am sure we would never know the absolute facts on how much of a mark-up there is on our electric.
I have done many upgrades to my home (new windows, doors, siding, stopping drafts) and, though my 33-year-old home has been updated and sealed off from drafts, my electric “continues” to climb. I have gone to the [...]
When some of the biggest companies in the world start talking telecommunications policy in Missouri, the citizens of our state should grab their wallets. AT&T, Sprint and the big boys are at it again, trying to lower their costs of doing business. Their proposal would increase their shareholders’ wealth, while rural Missourians could see their monthly local phone bills increase substantially.
Missourians need to pay attention because state lawmakers are considering legislation that would endanger the [...]

I often like to reflect on my life each and every day; however, there are those days brought by events in my life that bring me to look back even more and reflect on what I’ve learned.
This past week, I had another one of those days with the passing of Sullivan resident, Clark Springer.
You see, I grew up on the Harrison Farm, off Highway N along the Meramec River, with my grandparents’ farmhouse [...]
Dear Editor:
All previously written letters to this Senator were respectful. Claire McCaskill is articulate and intelligent. I have reached the conclusion that she and this entire Congress are playing us with their political maneuvering, wild spending, and impassioned rhetoric. Then, they point fingers and play dumb while we fight amongst ourselves. They are not dumb, or ignorant.
I have had enough of all of them, and I hope the reader can shed the emotion of [...]
Dear Editor,
This is a rather unusual notice to see in a newspaper, but it is of importance.
Around 5 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 12, a couple purchased a Hewlett-Packard laptap computer from the undersigned at a large department store in Sullivan. The couple looked at the displays of Toshiba and Hewlett-Packard and decided on the HP unit for $498 plus sales tax (around $539).
It was paid for by a debit card; however, they ran the card [...]

REHI RUTHERE? RUUP4LUNCHTOM? SOKIFURBZ EMMYT R T@UL HHTYAY,H&K, Karen*. If you understood that, you are already up to date with the Communication Evolution. I received this mumbo jumbo via my e-mail, via someone’s cell phone(??) My response, via e-mail, was, “Did you have your fingers on the wrong keys when you sent me that message??”
Where did this all begin? Well, I wasn’t there, but I imagine that when man first met woman, he [...]
