Human Remains Found In Washington Friday

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said human remains were found in the 4600 block of Old Highway 100 on Friday. Sheriff Steve Pelton said a 911 call was placed around 2:40 p.m. Deputies arrived on scene and confirmed the remains belonged to a human. They were found by a caretaker that was clearing brush in the wooded area. There is no cause of death at this time and the investigation is ongoing.... 

Dent County Woman Sentenced For Embezzling Money From Sears

A Dent County woman was sentenced Friday to three months in prison and six months of home confinement after being found guilty of embezzling from Sears. Court documents say Demea Loyd, Salem, owned two stores in Washington and Rolla and entered into a contract with Sears Authorized Hometown Stores, LLC to exclusively distribute Sears merchandise from the two stores. Driver Travels 24 Miles Wrong Way On Interstate 44

Update: A Sullivan man has serious injuries after the vehicle he was traveling in tried to avoid a vehicle driving in the wrong direction of Interstate 44 Friday. Discarded Syringes, Drug Arrests, Theft Increase In 2016

The Sullivan Police Department recorded increases in discarded syringes, drug arrests and theft in 2016. There were 129 discarded syringes recovered. In 2010, Sullivan police recorded just five discarded syringes. Three deaths were attributed to heroin overdoses in the city and 16 more overdoses occurred where the user survived. Sullivan Police Department Weekly Arrest Report

The Sullivan Police Department made 15 arrests in the City of Sullivan for the week of Feb. 13 through Feb. 19. This week’s arrests were: Feb. 13: April E. Mason-Carolan, 36, Sullivan, was arrested on a Sullivan Police warrant for failure to appear in court on the original charge of shoplifting, bond $100 and a felony warrant from Washington County for possession of dangerous drugs, $10,000 bond....
