Robertsville Man Accidentally Shoots Self

fcosheriffslogoA Robertsville man is recovering from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound he suffered Jan. 29.

At approximately 9:12 p.m., Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in Robertsville in reference to a gunshot wound. Deputies determined that the victim, Perry Melton, 48, had reportedly shot himself in the leg with a handgun.

Melton told authorities that he had been drinking and could not remember how the accident happened, but did recall taking the weapon out of his pocket and placing it on a table at one point.

The gun was found in Melton’s back pocket. He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur to be treated.
