Crawford County Offering WIC At Local Church In Bourbon

A WIC satellite clinic in Bourbon is now an option for clients who live closer to that area. The Crawford County Health Department is offering appointments at the Calvary Baptist Church on Old Highway 66 two days each month with the same WIC services provided as those at the main office in Steelville.
This is a service provided to the people in the surrounding area (Sullivan, Bourbon, Leasburg) that are having a hard time getting to their WIC appointments in Steelville and also the ones that can’t make it to the Franklin County WIC office. Clients are not required to live in the same county they receive their WIC benefits. Karen Sikes, the WIC Coordinator, is optimistic that as people learn about the availability of the clinic in Bourbon, more will seek the opportunity to receive this service.
The satellite clinic will utilize staff from their Steelville office to run this clinic. The gymnasium of the Calvary Baptist Church was offered to the health department for the WIC clinic at no cost to the health department.
The Bourbon clinic started serving clients in January and will continue the services 2 days every month. If you would like to take advantage of these services please call the Steelville office, 573-775-2555, to make an appointment. (Appointments are required.)
WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) provides federal grants to states for supplemental foods, health-care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.
