Sullivan Police See Increase In Total Incidents And Several Crime Areas Department Incident Reports Top 11,537

The Sullivan Police Department completed one of their busiest years to date receiving some 11,537 incident reports compared to 11,265 in 2011.
Overall, the department saw several increases in a number of areas, as well as decreases in some key areas.
In 2012, the department saw decreases in: 911 reports, 2,788 compared to 2,833 in 2011; Domestic Disturbance calls, 192 in 2012 with 236 in 2011; Burglaries 60 compared to 82 in 2011; Distribution of Controlled Substance arrests 29 up from 13 in 2011; Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia arrests, 7 in 2011 with 11 in 2012; Stealing, 327 in 2012 with 309 in 2011; Motor Vehicle Thefts and Arson were both up with 2 Arson incidents and 18 Vehicle Thefts in 2012.; Sexual Assaults remained the same with 15  in 2011 and 2012.
For the second straight year the department recorded no homicides.
Other increases for 2012 from 2011 included: Assaults, 84-82; Stealing Arrests, 105 to 97 and Assault Arrests, 37-24.
In traffic related activities and warrants the department investigated 124 accidents on private property compared to 115 in 2011; 107 Accident on Public Property, an increase from 100 in 2011; 33 DWI arrests compared to 19 in 2011; Traffic Violations decreased from 579  to 434;   Other Violations increased from 233 to 246; Written Warnings increased from 206 to 348; and Felony/Misdemeanor/Municipal Violation arrests warrants increased from 210 to 246.
The Animal Control Department saw a busy year with a slight decrease in incidents  with 1,292 compared to 1,335 in 2011. The department recovered 506 animals in 2011 with 477 in 2012; 211 animals were adopted in 2011 compared to 243 in 2012; and 86 animals were euthanized which was an decrease from 95 in 2011; and 78 animals were claimed in 2012 versus 60 in 2011.
