Most people understand that one day we will leave this earth. And what then?

Dear Editor:

Do we feel that we will be in heaven with Jesus? If we do, upon what do we base that assumption? What is the foundation of our belief system? Do we believe what our parents believe or what our friends believe? Or have we developed our own set of beliefs?
In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” And just who is this Jesus who made such a claim? When we go to the Bible, the word of God, we learn that Jesus is the perfect Son of God. He loves us so much that he left his home in heaven and came to live on earth among his creation. Then he sacrificed himself on the cross of Calvary to pay the debt for our sins. There is no greater love. Shortly before Jesus ascended into heaven he said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you,” Matthew 28;18b-20a.
Jesus Christ has been given all authority. If the foundation of our belief system is based in him and his teachings as found in the Bible and we have given our lives to him in obedience  to his commands, then we have the promise that we will live with him forever. Eternity with Jesus. What a wonderful place to be.
