Sullivan wrestlers took third place at the Owensville Tournament on Jan. 14, capping off another successful day for the Eagles program.
The previous week Sullivan finished third at the Park Hills Central Duels.
“It was a good tournament for us,” said head coach Matt Peregoy. “The athletes rose to the occasion. In the final round, we needed every point that we could get in order to finish in the top three.”
Josh Howell (138) was Sullivan’s only first place finisher.
Andrew Witt (106) and Travis Mogab (126) took second place.
Paul Schuler (113), Alex Crooks (160), Casey Philpot (170), Danton Creek (182) and Luke Pryor (195) all finished third.
Ryan Eastman (120) and Dalton Turner (182) finished fourth place.
“We ended up pinning in all eight matches,” said Peregoy. “Without this effort, we don’t place as a team. This is just more evidence that our athletes are rising to the challenge.”
Sullivan has just a couple weeks left before the district tournament in DeSoto. Peregoy said the competition against their future district opponents will help them out.
“As we look ahead, we have consistently competed well with our district opposition. This high level of competition will serve us well at the district tournament,” said Peregoy.
