The Rosebud American Legion would like to recognize the winners of its “Big Buck” fundraiser. On Nov. 27 at the Legion Hall in Rosebud, there were more horns than a brass band would have at a Thanksgiving Day Parade. And there was a great deal of appreciation being given by the successful deer hunters that had emerged from the woods with their trophy bucks.
As a means to raise much needed money for their continuing operation, the Rosebud Post, led by Doug McCurry, had put together a contest to score the antlers of the November hunting harvest. There were 90 hunters that entered the contest and paid their $10 to vie for the cash prizes offered for the highest scoring set of horns. The horns were scored by Ron West, a B&C certified scorer.
While the horns were being scored, the successful hunters enjoyed a bowl of hot chili and coffee along with the stories of the hunts which yielded their trophies.
When the results were announced, and the winners were given their part of the winners’ pot, the following men were recognized; first place, Jeff Brandt, B&C score 130; second place, Chad Finley, B&C score 129; third place, Kyle Brandt, B&C score 114; and fourth place, Derick McCurry, B&C score 106.
The Rosebud American Legion extends its appreciation to all the entrants in this contest and wishes them the best of luck in their future hunts.
