A Union man received moderate injuries and was flown to a St. Louis area hospital following a single- vehicle accident on Monday morning, Aug. 30, at 6:20 a.m.
The Missouri Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred on Highway 185 South, just south of the Highway 185 Spur, when Buel A. Jenkins, 45, Union, operating a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound, traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a highway sign and tree, then overturned into a creek on its side.
Jenkins, wearing a seat belt, had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Sullivan Fire Department. Jenkins was brought up from the creek bed by firefighters and transported by Missouri Baptist Ambulance to the Meramec River bridge. He was then flown by Air Evac helicopter to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, Creve Coeur, for treatment.
The vehicle was a total loss.
The roadway was closed for an hour Monday morning.
