In a town with a population of 1,348 people, you would think it would be a quiet little community.
Well, it’s not. There is always something going on. Be it horses on the North Outer Road to civil complaints and everything in between. The life as a police officer is very hectic.
This, however, does not bother most officers. It comes with the job. People think that all police officers do is write tickets and harass the public in some way. Let me assure you police officers do not have the time to be doing such things.
If you feel you have been mistreated in any way, contact me and I will take care of the situation. I have a monthly meeting with my officers to discuss any issues or complaints.
My officers will not pull someone over unless there is some type of problem either with the vehicle or a driving offense.
So if you are being pulled over, it is for an offense. People, including myself, sometimes lax in their driving abilities. Things like not using their turn signals. Not turning on their headlights in inclement weather. Not wearing their seat belt. Driving too fast. And not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.
I could go on and on, but the point is, when you are being pulled over it is because of some sort of offense. Please remain calm and answer the officers’ questions and the reason for the stop.
If you are issued a citation, do not argue with the officer. It accomplishes nothing. Just appear in court and explain your situation to the judge. That is why they are called judges. They judge each case and make their decisions accordingly.
Don’t ever think that the officer is always right. They are people, too, and do make mistakes. Even though we are trained to observe and react differently than the average person, we do make mistakes.
