Writers and authors in and around Franklin County met for their July meeting on Tues., July 20. The group met at the Hardee’s Meeting Room in Union.
Several people were in attendance from Union, Washington, Sullivan, Cuba, St. Clair, Marthasville and New Haven. Future meeting dates were set and future topics were suggested.
This meeting featured a representative of a large book distributor and co-owner of a publishing company. Self-publishing pros and cons, marketing and distribution, and the good and bad points concerning the use of literary agents were discussed. The speaker basically provided a “how to” for publishing promoting and distributing a writer’s works.
August’s meeting will have a discussion with an officer of the Missouri Writers Guild about services of that group and advantages of membership. The meeting will take place in the Meeting Room of the Scenic Regional Library in Union at 7 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 10. Scenic Regional is located on Highway 50 in Union, a few blocks east of Highway 47 next to Taco Bell.
Published authors are invited as well as those aspiring to publish. There will be no costs or fees. Attendees are asked to bring calendars and contact information. Because of the number of people coming from the Sullivan, Cuba and St. Clair area, it is hoped that some church or business in the area would permit an occasional meeting in their facility.
