Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke announced this week that deputies are cracking down on speeding along the newly opened four lanes of Highway 100, near Washington.
According to Toelke, authorities from the Missouri Highway Patrol and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department have received numerous complaints of speeding along the new section of roadway between Gray Summit and Washington. One resident in the area reported that she was nearly struck by a speeding vehicle while pulling into her driveway.
Although Highway 100 is primarily patrolled by the highway patrol, Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies within the traffic division have been and will continue to increase patrols in this area.
Toelke stated that, since the new section opened just weeks ago, deputies have issued 133 citations for speeding, one driving while intoxicated, one following too close to another vehicle, five summons for no proof of insurance and one summons for no driver’s license.
Toelke also stated that deputies and troopers will continue to enforce the speed limit of 55 mph on this stretch of roadway and motorists are encouraged to obey the speed limit and use caution.
