The Bourbon Boosters will try to add entertainment to this year’s Fall Festival, scheduled for Sept. 17-18.
Bourbon police chief, Mike Pennock, is in charge of the entertainment. He is looking for any bands to perform at the festival on either Friday or Saturday evening.
“The bands can be country, bluegrass or rock ‘n roll,” he said. He is hoping to have a large turnout.
To accommodate entertainment, the Boosters are hoping to have a stage constructed at Festival Park.
“We are wanting to build a stage,” said Boosters president, Mary Heywood. “We’ve been wanting to put something there for several years and are hoping it will come together this year.”
Heywood said that Alderman Mark Hilse will bring the issue to the Bourbon Board of Aldermen at its Aug. 17 meeting.
If the aldermen approve, the Boosters would like to get at least the floor constructed when the festival rolls around.
Heywood said, eventually, they want the stage to have a cover.
As always, the festival is a “family-oriented event” with no alcohol.
Pennock is also in charge of vendors this year.
“I would like to invite any and all who are interested in participating in the parade or obtaining a booth for crafts or whatever they might have,” he said.
More vendors will be allowed to sell food items this year, according to Pennock.
He said that things will be different at the community center, too.
“We are going to send people through the front doors to get their food items and out the side doors where the drinks will be served,” Pennock said. “Hopefully, this will curb the mass congestion in front of the community center we have each year for a smoother transaction.”
More picnic tables can be expected this year, so festival attendees can sit down and eat.
For questions or information about signing up for a booth, call Pennock or Sandy Martin at 573-732-4838.
“I hope to make this year the best year yet for the Fall Festival,” said Pennock.
