Dear Editor,
Whatever happened to the Biblical quote of: “Love your Neighbor,” Feed the Hungry” and “Help the Needy”?
I have a friend who is an unemployed mother of three. Their water was turned off for three weeks because she couldn’t pay the bill.
Since she has no car and no phone, I’ve been driving her job hunting and making phone calls for her.
I have called more than a dozen churches in the Sullivan area and was told “no” by all but one. They would none help. Some said they were maxed out. Others said if she was not a member of their church they would not help.
A local church said since she had no income they would not help. Their advice to her was to “move,” yet they will, and have, helped drug addicts and alcholics; but not a mother who is honestly looking for work.
My opinion of these people, “They are not true Christians.”
“God bless you, St. Anthony.” You are the only one who said ‘yes’ to a desperate family. I thank you for that.
