The Bourbon Board of Aldermen held a preliminary discussion on June 29 over setting up an interfaced network system that would connect city hall, the municipal court, the police department and the treatment plant.
Paul Schierhoff of Net Engineers was invited to advise the board on how they should approach the project.
Alderman Mark Hilse told Schierhoff that the city would like to have four or five computer hubs at city hall that would link the four departments.
Schierhoff suggested that the city consider a wireless VPN (virtual private network) to share data. Schierhoff said the board needs to determine which software they want and then get the hardware separate.
Schierhoff said there are two software vendors being used in the area: Incode by Tyler Technologies and Summit Software.
The city would need to research the software that best suits its needs for billing, accounting and budgeting.
Schierhoff was unsure police software applications would be compatible with other software vendors.
