Lemuel Rush “Tooter” Scott was born in Anthonies Mill, MO on August 10, 1926 and passed away in Scottsdale, AZ on May 16, 2010 at the Sunrise Home facility.
Rush graduated from Sullivan High School in 1944 and the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Economics degree in 1949. He played the drums in high school, college and in the Navy, was a soda jerk, and attended the Presbyterian Church in Sullivan. During college, he sold men’s wear in Columbia, MO after serving in the Navy during WWII. He was present in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the armistice ending the war.
His business sales affiliations, starting in the 1950s, were with the J.C. Nichols Company, Cliff Brisbois Realtors, Mutrusco mutual funds, Waddell and Reed (began a new division in Phoenix, AZ). Other very successful sales jobs have been with Young, Smith and Peacock brokers, and 15 years with Native Peoples Magazine in Phoenix.
He is survived by children, Sherry Scott Collins of Seattle, WA, Alan Rush Scott of Olathe, KS and Linda Sue Scott of Fiddletown, CA; grandchildren, Casey Jo Collins and Tananah Namaste Scott; cousin, John D. Scott of Sullivan; nieces, Sally Jan Scott and Hallie Ann Scott; and sister-in-law, Loretta Scott of St. Louis.
Rush was preceded in death by his parents, John Shotwell Scott and Hallie Anthony Scott; a brother, John Scott; and sisters, Marguerite, Pauline and Fannie.
A celebration of his life was given at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Sunrise Home, Scottsdale, AZ.
