On May 24, at approximately 4:30 PM., a Franklin County Deputy was traveling Hwy 47 near St. Clair. He observed a motorcycle with black male driver continually looking over his shoulder at the patrol vehicle.
The subject turned in to a private drive failing to use the turn signal. He went behind a building and back on to Hwy 47 going the opposite direction toward St. Clair. The driver refused to stop for the deputy.
There were several other deputies in the area that located and followed the subject to the intersection of Schuchart Road and Prairie Dell Road where the subject drove in to a private drive. He dropped the motorcycle then fled on foot. There was a brief search of the area but he was not located.
The motorcycle was towed. Later that night, deputies contacted the registered owner of the bike, Corey Hanley, a black male, age 26 from Villa Ridge. Hanley advised that his motorcycle had been stolen. The deputy could not identify Hanley as the operator of the motorcycle. Hanley was taken in to custody on out standing misdemeanor warrants unrelated to the traffic incident. Further investigation is being conducted.
