Daryl Jorden says he took a big risk when he opened Busted Knuckle Body Shop this past winter.
Jorden had left his job working for a trucking industry in Union to open the shop.
“People said I was crazy to be opening a business in this economy,” he said. “But I wanted to be back in business for myself.”
Twenty-three years ago he had owned his own business, but eventually left it. His new business, he said, has been doing well and he is eager to serve the people of the community.
The body shop is located at 2236 Highway FF in Bourbon. Jorden said he does everything, from oil changes to state inspections, major restoration and minor engine repair.
He has a tow truck, but said that it will be for his customers.
“I don’t want to get out there and start doing that,” he said, while laughing.
Jorden thinks his business has done well, so far, because nobody is in the market to buy a new car.
“People want to keep their cars now. They don’t have a lot of money to go out and buy a new car, so they want to keep their stuff working well,” he said.
Right now Jorden works by himself, but said he would like to get busy enough to employ other people.
“I want to do an honest job at a fair price,” he said. “I’ve got low rates and want to build up a clientele.”
The shop is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. After hours and Saturdays are by appointment only.
