Joseph Martellaro of Cuba, MO is running for the U.S. Senate. Frustrated with yelling at the television set and talking to public servants who stubbornly refused to believe that two plus two still equals four, Joe and his wife of 39 years are committed to making the effort to bring the control of government back to the people.
A voracious reader, Martellaro has an extensive knowledge of history, economics and the Constitution. He is now determined to take action. The doors opened when Kit Bond announced he would not seek reelection.
Martellaro believes that those elected to high office require special qualities—wisdom, courage, humility and statesmanship. The founders would agree. Unfortunately, in many cases today, we are served by arrogant, career-seeking politicians whose primary goal is to remain in power.
Martellaro no longer finds compatibility with either Democrat or Republican parties. While attending a meeting of the local
Constitution Party and hearing their philosophy of government, he realized that the Constitution Party has, first and foremost, a commitment to the Constitution. It supports the founders’ historic position on the separation of power in Washington.
Having just won a war against England, the founders established the Constitution and its concept of limited and divided powers because of their fear of putting citizens once again under a powerful central government. They believed, and history proves, that centralized power is a threat to individual freedom.
Patrick Henry reminds us that, “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people; it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government.”
The Constitution Party believes that government is ultimately accountable to, and subservient to, the will of the people.
Martellaro has found a party and a platform that he can campaign for and support.
On Feb. 23, he traveled to Jefferson City to officially file his declaration of candidacy for U.S. Senate. He is convinced that this is the time to return control of government back to the people.
Martellaro intends to dedicate himself to serving the people according to the Constitution of our founders, which has been the standard of freedom for over 200 years. During that time, no other country has come up with anything that can compete.
