Eastbound Interstate 44 is expected to be closed for several hours following an overturned tractor trailer accident that occurred at 2:36 a.m.
The accident occurred at the 228 mile marker of eastbound I-44 near the Winsel Creek Construction area.
Early indications are that the driver lost control of the tractor trailer entering the construction zone causing the semi to strike a guardrail on the south side of the interstate and then overturned onto the eastbound passing lane.
The roadway was expected to be closed for several hours while Chuck’s Wrecker Service, Sullivan, unloaded the Tony’s Pizza’s from the trailer and  brought the tractor trailer unit back onto the roadway. The accident is being investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol with emergency assistant from Sullivan Fire and Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies.
The driver of the semi was injured and transported by Missouri Baptist Ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, for treatment. His name has not yet been released at 3:38 a.m.
Further details will be reported in the April 28, 2010 edition of the Sullivan Independent News.
