The Sullivan City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday evening, Apr. 8, at 7 p.m. to discuss two proposed utility ordinances.
The ordinances were presented for a special meeting following a more than three hour discussion, with a full capacity of city residents in Sullivan City Hall Tuesday night during the council’s regular meeting.
Several residents were outraged over their utility bills. More on this issue will appear in the Sullivan Independent News, April 14, 2010 edition.
The two ordinances are both geared to giving residents some extra time to pay their utility bills that are due for April. Many residents experienced $500 to $700 electric bills during the February usage month.
Ord. 3391 would change the due date to April 30th instead of April 15 and would also eliminate penalties for utilities billed April 1 and May 1. The ordinance would sunset on June 10.
Ord. 3392 would eliminate penalties for utilities billed on April 1, and May 1. Penalties would resume with the June 1, billing.
