A passionate and stern Sandra Davidson, Sullivan, addressed the Sullivan City Council Tuesday, Feb. 16, during their regular meeting under the requests and petitions portion of the meeting.
Davidson, representing the Sullivan 9-12 committee spoke to the council giving them a brief report on the organization she is with and why it was formed. Davidson stated that after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the United State became united as one on September 12 and the feelingĀ  lasted for some time but has become divided again.
“We are still American’s, we are still patriots,” said Davidson.
Davidson spoke about why the committee was formed and why they opposed to big government and asked the council to keep items before them at the local level and resist the temptations that come with accepting federal funds, such as the stimulus funds or American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
Davidson was opposed to the city accepting funds to finance the second phase of the East Vine St. improvement project because their coming from the federal stimulus program. Davidson highlighted that most of these grant funds from the government come with strings attached.
Davidson also briefly discussed what she called an alleged plan by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon for a 10 year plan entitled Race To The Top in which she says will take children and no longer be in their parents control.
‘The council starts our foundation, you don’t build a foundation on termites,” said Davidson. “We need our local government to help push back the federal government. We need to tighten our belts and tell big government no.”
Davidson said she is not against President Barrack Obama but against his policies.
“Please, don’t take any more federal funds, we need your help and support,” said Davidson.
Despite Davidson’s appeal for the council to not accept the federal stimulus dollars for the East Vine St. phase two project, the council proceeded Tuesday night with accepting the grant and awarding the contract to Southern Ditching in the amount of $724,246.55, all of which is funded by the stimulus program.
