Robert J. Baker, Sr. of O’Fallon, MO, formerly of Sullivan, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the age of 85 years.
Robert was born on July 16, 1924 in Muskegon, MI to the late Rufus and Elsa Baker. He honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. On July 15, 1944, Robert was united in marriage to Evialena Bottoms-Vest and three children were born to their union.
Mr. Baker was employed for 17 years in the dairy industry and later by Busch Wildlife Reserve. For many years, Mr. and Mrs. Baker lived on a farm on Chapel Hill Road. They donated five acres of their farm to be designated as New Chapel Hill Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Baker, Jr. and Milton G. Baker, both of O’Fallon; five sisters; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his wife, Evialena Baker, in 1996 and a daughter, Roseanne Marie Baker.
Services for Robert J. Baker, Sr. were conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in New Chapel Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
