Dear Editor,
Many seniors over 65 are not taking advantage of a tax credit of up to $1,100 if they own or $750 if they rent. Even those living in assisted living qualify. The amount of allowable income has raised and seniors’ interest on their investments has dropped, so that many who didn’t qualify before, now qualify!
Check on your neighbors, family, friends. The form is not automatically sent out. The form can be downloaded at www.dor.mo.gov/tax. Reaching out to our Seniors in the State of Missouri would be a wonderful community project for churches, high school students, organizations.
The deadline for filing is Apr. 15.
If a senior has not taken advantage of this credit, they can go back three years and still file for those years.
