Missouri ASA Softball Announces Plans For 2010 Season

The Missouri Amateur Softball Association has announced plans for the 2010 season. The MASA Board of Directors met in Rolla in October, and the Amateur Softball Association of America National Council met in Reno, NV in November.

Sites selected for state softball championships:
The girls fast pitch state tournaments will be held June 25-27:
· Girls 10 & Under “A” – St. Joseph
·Girls 12 & Under “A” – Springfield
·Girls 14 & Under “A” – Cape Girardeau
·Girls 16 & Under “A” – Rolla
·Girls 18 & Under “A” – Jefferson City
·Girls 12 & Under “B” – Rolla
·Girls 14 & Under “B” – Springfield
·Girls 16 & Under “B” – Cape Girardeau
·Girls 18 & Under “B” – St. Joseph
The 2010 adult state championships are as follows:
·Men’s Church – Rolla (July 17)
· Coed “C” – Columbia (July 31-Aug. 1)
·Coed “D” – Columbia (July 31-Aug. 1)
·Women’s Superball – Rolla (Aug. 14-15)
·Men’s “B” – Springfield (Aug. 7-8)
·Men’s “C” – Springfield (Aug. 7-8)
·Men’s “D” – Jefferson City (Aug. 7-8)
·Men’s “E” – Springfield (Aug. 7-8)
The 26th annual Missouri ASA State Convention will be held at the Lakewood Resort, Osage Beach, MO. Dates are Feb. 19-20 and the convention registration form is available on the Missouri ASA website.
Featured speaker will be Johnnie Miller, asst. director of membership services from the ASA National Office in Oklahoma City. Meetings begin Friday night at 5 p.m. and continue through Saturday afternoon.
The 24th annual Missouri ASA State Softball Awards Banquet will be held on Sat., Feb. 20 at the Seven Springs Winery, 846 Winery Hills Estates, Linn Creek, MO 65052. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to start at 6 p.m.

Other special awards will be presented as well. A Silent Auction will be conducted to raise money for the Student Scholarship program. Tickets for the Awards Banquet and Hall of Fame ceremonies are $25 each.
Rules changes, as well as ASA Code changes, were enacted at the ASA national meeting in Reno. Highlights of those changes include:
·Pitching distance for all 16 & Under and 18 & Under Fast Pitch divisions of play will now be 43 feet.
·Metal cleats are allowed for all 16 & Under and 18 & Under fast pitch.
·The required double “safety” base at first base can now be any contrasting color.
·Softball bats are no longer prohibited from having a cone shape at the knob end.
·In slow pitch, the height limit for pitching is now 10 feet instead of 12 feet.

The Amateur Softball Association is the National Governing Body of Softball. The organization is a volunteer driven, not-for-profit organization based in Oklahoma City, OK.
