Franklin County Law Enforcement Make Arrests

On March 2, at approximately 2:30 PM., a Franklin County Deputy attempted a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle on North Bend Loop Road outside of Union when the vehicle sped away.  The deputy observed the vehicle travel down a dead end road.  He then radioed for assistance.  Deputies tracked the vehicle to a residence where it was determined that a male and female passenger fled in to the woods.

Deputies began searching for the subjects and later found them walking in the woods.  Upon seeing law enforcement, the subjects fled on foot again.  The female eventually stopped and was taken in to custody.  She was found to be in possession of narcotics paraphernalia.  She was identified as a white female, age 34 from St. Clair.  The male was also located and arrested for investigation of narcotics violations.  He was identified as a white male, age 36 from St. Clair, arrested for investigation of resisting arrest and possession of narcotics.  Two individuals who arrived on the scene were also arrested.  They were Joseph Zigler, a white male, age 49 from Sullivan arrested on a warrant for arson, and a white female, age 58 from Union for investigation of narcotics violations.  Names of individuals not charged are being withheld pending issuance of warrants.

On this date at approximately 2:00 AM., a Franklin County Deputy attempted a traffic stop on Hwy 100 for speeding.  The vehicle refused to stop and drove to a residence just outside the city limits of Pacific.  The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to walk toward the residence.  The deputy ordered him to stop however he continued.

A struggle ensued that lasted for several minutes.  During this time the subject was Tazed several times but still continued to resist.  Other units arrived on the scene to assist and the subject was taken in to custody.  The subject refused to take a breathalyzer.  A search warrant was obtained to obtain blood alcohol.  The subject continued to be combative until he was finally transported to the Franklin County Jail.  He is identified as a white male, age 40 from Brighton, Illinois.  The deputy was not injured during the struggle
