The Sullivan City Council met in open session on Tues., Mar. 2 approving a number of items.
The council approved two wine tasting permits for B&B Kwik Stop, 116 South Service Rd., and D&P Liquor, 689 Fisher Dr., as both businesses are planning for wine tasting events. The council approved the requests unanimously.
The Cultural Grant Committee presented two applications for grant funding, which were both approved unanimously by the council.
The Sullivan Community Choir was awarded $1,136.85 for their spring concert and the Sullivan Patrons of the Arts was awarded $1,709 for a Shakespeare Festival Production on Mar. 15.
City administrator Mark Falloon reported that the city’s software program can allow for utility bill round-up if a customer chooses to have their bill rounded up, with the extra funds used for the Sullivan Emergency Assistance Fund. The program will not cost the city any additional funds, and more information will be forthcoming.
The council awarded a bid for $38,970 for installation of a new airport beacon at the Sullivan Regional Airport. The bid was awarded to Tri-County Electric Contractors, Center, MO, pending approval by MoDOT Aviation. The beacon project is funded through the sales of jet fuel tax to the State of Missouri.
Mayor J.T. Hardy reported that all of the temporary right-of-way construction easements have been obtained for the Springfield Rd. project.
The council went into closed session for one matter of litigation and two matters of real estate; however, no action was taken.
