A local high energy rock-n-roll band hailing from Sullivan is quickly making their mark on the area music scene.
Breakdances With Wolves, formed in March 2009, captured a Battle of the Bands benefit show at “The Crux” concert venue and church located in Washington off Highway A, Saturday, Feb. 13.
The band battled 12 other bands in the competition to capture first place which included winning a 5X8 enclosed trailer.
The event helps to raise money for the organization “World Hope International” and their efforts to stop human trafficking.
The band is comprised of: Cory Rapps, lead vocals and guitar, Owensville; Clark Wilcox, drums, Sullivan; Spencer Sojka, bass guitar and vocals, Sullivan; and Chris Coleman, guitar/vocals, Sullivan.
“It was amazing to win the battle of the bands competition and we one by only one point,” said Coleman.
“There were a couple of bands that I thought would take it and when they announced the winners from fourth to first when they got to second place i thought it was anyone’s chance and when they called our name it was just amazing,” said Sojak.
The band was also very pleased to have helped raise funds for such a needy cause. The event included videos for concert goers to watch on the World Hope organization and the battle against human trafficking.
Winning contests is becoming a powerful event for Breakdances With Wolves and something they hope to continue.
The group is currently moving through the Battle of the Bands contests being held at Pop’s Nightclub in Souja, Illinois, and sponsored by St. Louis Radio Station 105.7 The Point. The contest will award a slot on the points Piontfest Summer Concert at the Verizon Amphitheater which will host local bands on another stage at the concert venue.
Breakdances With Wolves won their latest round in the competition and have moved on to the next round set for the nightclub this Friday beginning at 6 p.m. The cost to see the band is $6.
The band features only original material they have written and recorded. The four band members came together from two separate bands that played the local music scene together and friendships were made. Following a few years and other joint ventures the present band and lineup was established.
The band has also been performing in the St. Louis area at The Fubar nightclub and Pop’s. They are also scheduled for a performance at the St. Louis nightclub Sissero’s.
The group also is proud of the following they are obtaining which included some 179 people attending their last battle of the bands at Pop’s nightclub.
“We are starting to get a strong following and people are giving us some great feedback,” said Coleman.
Breakdances With Wolves is looking to begin writing some new material and continue their local push in the St. Louis music scene along with a possible tour in the near future.
