Soybean farmers are encouraged to attend a district soybean meeting to be held Tues., Feb. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Memorial Auditorium in Union. The meeting is sponsored jointly by Franklin County University of Missouri Extension and the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council.
Speakers for the meeting include Bill Wiebold, state extension soybean specialist, who will discuss ways to increase soybean yield. Wayne Bailey, state extension entomologist, will discuss soybean insect pests including stink bugs, Japanese beetle and soybean aphid. J.P. Dunn with the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council will present information on recent developments in adding value to soybean.
“This meeting will provide farmers with an update on factors affecting soybean production,” said Matt Herring, University of Missouri Extension agronomy specialist. “Increasing soybean yield is important to increase profitability and new technology is helping farmers reach for new yield goals. Soybean insect pests including stinkbug, Japanese beetle and soybean aphid are pests farmers are increasingly seeing in their fields.”
