Sullivan police have two teens in custody following some late night vandalism activity on Sunday night, Jan. 17, and early Monday morning, Jan. 18.
According to Sullivan Police Chief George R. Counts, an officer was on routine patrol at 12:04 a.m. on Monday morning when he observed several locations in the city that had been spray painted by vandals.
These locations included several stop signs on Euclid St., a home garage on Orchard St. and a building at Fidelity Communications.
Shortly after observing the vandalism, an officer observed two male subjects near the intersection of Springfield Rd. and Manion St. The officer attempted to make contact with the subjects who then attempted to elude the officer by hiding between two buildings.
The officer made contact with the two suspects and located several spray paint cans near the location in which they ran from the officer.
The two white male suspects, ages 17 and 16, were taken into custody with warrants expected to be issued from the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The 16-year-old may face penalties in the Franklin County Juvenile Office.
The spray paint cans were believed stolen from a local business prior to the vandalism acts.
