Missouri State Fire Marshall Bomb Squad crews from Jefferson City were called to Ridge Rd. Monday evening, Jan. 25, for an apparent explosive device found on the Winsel Creek Bridge on Ridge Rd.
According to the Sullivan Fire Department they were called to Ridge Rd. along with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department shortly before 1:30 p.m. Monday, for a possible explosive device on the right side of the bridge.
The roadway was closed while crews assessed the situation.
Missouri State Fire Marshall Roger Windle arrived on the scene and photographed the device and sent the pictures to the bomb squad in Jefferson City.
“The device was made from a Coleman propane tank with two adjoining cylinders wrapped in masking tape,” said Sullivan Fire Chief Rich White.
The bomb squad from Jefferson City arrived at the scene Monday afternoon and disposed of the device at 6:06 p.m. The roadways was then opened for traffic.
The investigation into this incident is continuing by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and Missouri State Fire Marshall’s office
