Acknowledging that education entails more than just the three “R’s,” area businesses have joined together to promote the acquisition of prized character traits in our young people via a book entitled, “Eight Keys to a Better Me.”
The books are provided to second graders with the theme addressing eight valued attributes: respect, courage, feelings, honesty, kindness, patriotism, self-worth, and responsibility.
Fidelity Communications prepared the mailing containing the donations from Aerofil Technology, Inc., the Bank of Sullivan, Baymont Inn & Suites, Coldwell Banker Reeves, Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital, and Dr. Tiefenbrunn of Sullivan Family Practice.
Mrs. Cynthia Bleckman, our district’s second grade teacher, has distributed the books to the students and will be discussing their content over a period of several weeks. She believes (and the rest of us would probably agree) that these concepts are far too important to relegate them to a single class period.
We are convinced that the colorful pictures, specific examples used in relation to each trait, and the age-appropriate wording will lend themselves well to making a lasting impression on each student.
