Adult winners of the bake-off competition - Nikki Pascoe is the first place winner in the entree portion, and her daughter, Paige, who was accepting for her grandmother, Rachel Weiler; Jacob Wells accepting for his mother, Penny; and Mr. Richard Weiskopf and his daughter, Abby, accepting for his wife, Susan.

Adult winners of the bake-off competition - Nikki Pascoe is the first place winner in the entree portion, and her daughter, Paige, who was accepting for her grandmother, Rachel Weiler; Jacob Wells accepting for his mother, Penny; and Mr. Richard Weiskopf and his daughter, Abby, accepting for his wife, Susan.

Middle school students at Strain-Japan competed in the annual Food for Thought event on Nov. 12.  The project is a multi-disciplinary activity that incorporates communication arts, mathematics, social studies, health, and science.
Students present an oral demonstration of how to prepare a particular recipe with this year’s theme being food that would have been eaten during the westward movement.
At the fifth and sixth grade level, Alaina Rapp won the third place trophy; Garrett Piofcyk took second place, and Abby Weiskopf earned the first place trophy. Winners in the seventh and eighth grade division from third to first place included Jacob Dixon, Hunter Breece, and Jacob Wells.
Dr. Gary Clinard and Mrs. Sue Koch served as judges during the school day. Criteria utilized in determining the winners included organization featuring an introduction, actual demonstration, summary, and response to questions; clarity; degree of difficulty associated with a recipe; and inclusion of nutritional data of the various ingredients.
An Adult Bake-Off is also a component of the program.  Nikki Pascoe won first place honors in the entrée portion; Susan Weiskopf won first among the dessert contestants with her Triple Layer Pie. Third place winner Rachel Weiler prepared a delicious gooey butter cake and second place winner Penny Wells fixed devilish brownies.  The number of students who volunteer to serve as judges in this category continues to grow year by year.
