North County finally got the best of Sullivan.
The Raiders avenged an ugly loss from a week ago in the Potosi Tournament to knock off the Eagles, 70-67, in double overtime on Thursday night, giving the Eagles their first losing streak of the season.
Tyler Garner led all scorers with 30 points and was a perfect 10-10 at the free throw line. He had nine rebounds, two assists and one block.
Derek Emily led North County with 26 points and was 10-15 from the field. Seth Caldwell scored 21 points on 8-10 shooting. Overall, the Raiders shot a healthy 56 percent from the floor. They hit four of nine three-point attempts and 16-19 from the free-throw line.
Emily hit a late three-pointer in the second overtime that helped North County. Robbie Holland hit two free throws to seal the game, and a desperation three-pointer was off the mark by Sullivan.
North County led 10-8 after one quarter, but the Eagles turned it around in the second quarter, leading 24-22 at halftime.
The Raiders came back strong in the third quarter, outscoring Sullivan, 18-11, and taking a 40-35 lead into the fourth quarter.
Sullivan made their run. They outscored the Raiders, 14-9, and sent the game into overtime.
Both teams scored just six points in the first overtime, but the Raiders scored 15 in the second.
Sullivan will try to recover when they host Pacific and St. James in conference action this week.
The Eagles have yet to win a game where they also lost the rebounding battle. North County had a 30-26 edge over Sullivan, despite the Eagles pulling in eight offensive rebounds to North County’s six.
Sullivan did improve their ball handling after committing 25 turnovers against St. Francis Borgia three nights earlier. The Eagles had 11 turnovers while North County had 12.
Johnny Bell had a season-high 19 points on 7-15 shooting. He hit two three-pointers, dished seven assists and had seven rebounds.
Adam Lindemann had nine points, three assists and three rebounds. Kyle Roehrs had four points, three assists and two rebounds. Ross Arteaga had three points and three rebounds and Patrick Moody had two points and one rebound.
Tanner Beers scored 10 points for the Raiders and a team-high six assists. Holland dropped in seven points, Brian Jaco had four and Aaron Parker had two.
