Mid-Ozark CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) has moved into a new office in the Resource Recovery building at 412 N. Franklin, Suite 423. The phone number, 573-677-2022, remains the same.
Mid-Ozark CASA serves the 42nd Circuit Court as advocates for children in the court system. The advocates are trained volunteers who commit to staying with a child, or siblings, as the case moves to resolution. The CASA advocate tries to be a constant in the child’s life, as many times a social worker, judge or attorney may change. The CASA is the voice of the child, or children, to the court.
Janet Jones, Mid-Ozark CASA’s volunteer coordinator, is finishing one training session with new volunteers to be sworn in on Dec. 14. She is currently taking applications for a new class, which will start in early 2010. An applicant must be able to commit to 30 hours of training, spread over 8-10 weeks, and submit to a background check.
