Approximately two weeks ago the Sheriff’s Office was advised that a subject had entered a store in Rosebud, Missouri and chased a Com Data check. The subject stated that he was a Franklin County Deputy. The check listed the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office as the issuing agency. The subject showed a State I.D. and cashed the check for $250.00. It was later determined that the check was forged and the subject was not affiliated with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The case is being investigated by the Gasconade County Sheriff’s Office.

Last week, information was received that a subject driving what appeared to be a maroon unmarked patrol car cashed a check in Bland, Missouri stating he was a Highway Patrolman.

This weekend, what appears to be the same subject cashed a check at the Parkway Grocery Store outside of St. Clair. The subject again stated he was a Franklin County Deputy and cashed a Com Data check.

On Sunday afternoon, a Franklin County Traffic Patrol Deputy conducted a traffic stop of a maroon, vehicle on Hwy 47 between Union and Washington. The suspect and vehicle fit the description of the individual who had cashed checks at the above locations. It was determined that the subject was wanted by Springfield, Missouri Police for forgery.

Sheriff’s detectives showed one of the witnesses a photo line up containing the suspect’s photo. They were able to identify the individual as the subject who had cashed one of the forged checks. He has been arrested for investigation of forgery and is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail. He is identified as a white male, age 35 from Fenton. It appears several other jurisdictions in the State have had similar complaints.
