Council Discusses Water, Sewer Rates And Other Issue

The Sullivan City Council was scheduled to meet in open session on Tues., Dec. 15, holding a public hearing on proposed water and sewer rates along with their regular agenda items.
A public hearing to lower water and sewer rates was scheduled for 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The proposed rates are: water - $4.69 fixed cost, unit per 100 gallons of use $0.482, current charges are $2.42 fixed cost and $0.638 unit charge; sewer - $11.81 fixed cost and $0.603 unit charge, current charges are $18.68 fixed cost and $0.544 unit charge. The proposed rates, if changed, would take effect with the Jan. 1, 2010 billing cycle.
The council was scheduled to hear a request and petition from Toni Lueken, utility bills, and Scott and Janet Morrow on a zoning request change.
The monthly bills, totaling $1,286,568.44, were scheduled for approval with $537,694.68 to Sho-Me Power, $244,671.24 for city payroll, and $46,903.71 to UMB Bank for payment 21 on the new wastewater treatment plant.
Only one ordinance was before the council for approval. Ordinance 3373, which, if approved would change the water and sewer rates to the new lower rate as mentioned in this article.
The council was scheduled to hold a closed session meeting, listing real estate, litigation and personnel.
