The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 81 of Bourbon met at the Bourbon Community Center on Nov. 24. 16th District President Carolyn Isgriggs conducted the business, opening the meeting with prayer. The group repeated the Pledge of Allegiance with the Legion members who were also meeting. The ladies then repeated the preamble to their constitution.
Secretary Alice Bremer read the minutes of the October meeting and the treasurer Lisa Weaver gave her report. Both were approved. The secretary was happy to report that the 2010 membership goal had been met. There are still a few members who are outstanding, and it is hoped that they will send their dues soon.
Carolyn reported that the Nov. 23 Red Cross Bloodmobile visit was successful. Everyone thanked the First Methodist Church for the use of their basement for the blood drive.
The District 16 meeting will be held in Dixon, MO at 10 a.m. on Dec. 6. All members are welcome to attend.
Elaine Steuernagle and Dixie Dehn reported that they have the 50/50 fundraising project started and it is going well. The drawing will be on Dec. 19.
Members discussed the Poppy order for 2010 and it was decided to order extra, so that there would be enough for distribution and for giving to students next year at the Veterans program at the Bourbon School.
The St. James Veterans Home Christmas Gift Shop project will be held on Dec. 7 at 8:30 a.m. Members will attend to help veterans select and wrap gifts for their families and friends.
Cheer baskets for local veterans and shut-ins will be made up on Dec. 12 at Bremer Hardware at 9 a.m. Members are urged to attend to help prepare the gifts.
The Auxiliary is now collecting printer ink cartridges for recycling. They may be left at Circle Inn Malt Shop or at Bremer Hardware. Other projects were discussed before the meeting was adjourned.
Before leaving, everyone enjoyed cake and coffee, served by Carolyn. Our next regular scheduled business meeting will be the last Tuesday in January 2010.
