For over 12 years, the Sullivan Senior Class has sponsored a blood drive as part of their community service projects and on Thursday that tradition continued in the Sullivan High School commons area with the St. John’s Mercy Hospital/Senior Class Blood Drive.
“Each year, our senior class conducts a senior class service project and this is one of them,” said Debra Dicus, co-senior sponsor with Karen Ryan. “Things, this year, with the blood drive have gone very well and St. John’s is doing an excellent job for us, probably the best organized blood drive I’ve seen so far.”
Dicus reported that over 80 people signed up for the blood drive on Thursday with a total of 106 attempts with 90 usable pints collected.
Paige Pruitt, senior class representative, helped to organize the event on Thursday.
“I feel this was pretty successful and I’m very glad that it turned out so well and so organized,” said Pruitt. “There were several sporting events going on Thursday, so that hurt our numbers a little bit.”
Dicus commented that some 30 members of the senior class helped to work on the blood drive and that several seniors will help work the Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital Health Fair on Sat., Nov. 7.
Several other organization blood drives are being planned at SHS, including the FCLA and FFA blood drives.
