I noticed that the Sullivan Middle School had a guest speaker make a presentation to the student body.
I am curious to know if a letter was sent to parents in advance, allowing them to know what the content would be and allow the parents to keep their students home rather than subject them to the opinions of the guest speaker? Do the parents know the speaker’s political affiliation? Do the parents know if he is pro life or pro abortion? He says he is in favor of the students being good, healthy students, but what if his motivation was to offer an opinion different from what mom and dad suggest at home? Parents who wanted to protect their children from a speech made by the President of the United States surely would want to protect their children from a speaker who is unknown to the majority of local citizens. I bet most parents don’t even know this assembly took place. The students were required to draw their own conclusions. Isn’t that what education is all about?

Cousey,
Excellent observation and commentary! Unfortunately, it will probably go straight over the heads of those most needing of it.
