The 24th annual Meramec Community Fair is only eight months away, and counting, with the 2010 fair set for June 22-26.
The fair will kick off with a parade on Tues., June 22 at 6 p.m. in downtown Sullivan.
Many events are being added or changed in 2010, which include a full rodeo and bull bash on Thursday and Friday, a Friday evening/night motocross, side-by- side truck and tractor pulls on Thursday night, and a demolition derby on Saturday evening/night.
The fair board is in negotiations with its 2010 entertainment lineup which has been boosted thanks to the City of Sullivan Cultural Grant of $35,000.
“We have an exciting fair being planned with the 2010 theme, “A Whirlwind of Fun,” said president James B. Bartle. “We’re working on all aspects of the fair to bring what we feel is the biggest and best fair to date, as we fine tune events and look for stronger entertainment. I can say that we have one act confirmed for the fair with a contract pending and a second act that we should have a confirmation on by Nov. 10. If all goes as planned, I think people are going to be blown away by our entertainment lineup.”
The fair board is also trying something new in 2010. Early bird fair tickets are on sale now through December at a cost of $20.
“We wanted to give people a chance to buy early bird fair tickets for the holidays for the person that’s tough to buy a gift for,” said Bartle. “These tickets are going to be $20 for all three days of the fair and will be on sale through December. They will also be on sale for a month in the spring at a date, to be determined, for $20. Tickets after the early bird sale will then increase to $25.”
The “early bird” tickets can be purchased at the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce office Monday through Friday.
