Sullivan city residents could see a decrease in their water and sewer bills as early as January following actions on Tuesday night, Nov. 3, by the Sullivan City Council.
During city administrator Mark Falloon’s report to the council, Sullivan mayor, J.T. Hardy, asked Falloon how Carl Brown Consulting was doing with the water/sewer rate study.
Falloon reported that completion of the rate study was expected in the next 60 days; however, following board review and adjustments, it could take four-to-six months at the latest.
Hardy then stated that, when the council approved the fiscal year 2010 budget, they adjusted items to lower water and sewer rates and that budget took effect on Oct. 1. He also added that he would like to see the council lower the rates to the budgeted rate, and it will take 30 days for a public hearing to lower rates.
Following some discussion on the budget and the rates, Alderman Thomas Leasor presented a motion to hold a public hearing in December to lower the water and sewer rates. This was seconded by Alderman Mike Ryan, and approved unanimously.
The public hearing on the rates is expected to be held on Dec. 15.
