It’s been two years since the Spring Bluff School has played host to an annual Chicken and Dumplings Dinner that for years was a part of the school’s proud tradition and history.
A few years ago, the Spring Bluff Community Club, which had hosted the event, decided not to hold the annual fall dinner.
According to Steve Stumpe, school board member and Spring Bluff Education Foundation member, the foundation decided this year to resume the annual dinner, which has helped the school for so many years.
“When the community club disbursed, we decided to host the event and use the proceeds to help pay tuition increases that the school has had, among other things,” said Stumpe. “The proceeds from this event, in years past, has helped the school purchase computers, smart board and other needed education items.”
Stumpe stated that this event will be continued for years to come by the foundation and will become part of its annual fundraising campaign, which also includes the popular Spring Bluff School dinner/dance/auction.
“We hope to build on this and add this to our fundraising program,” said Stumpe. “We hope to raise $1,500 to $2,000 with the pie auction and the chicken and dumpling dinner and, hopefully, $5,000 to $7,000 from the dinner itself.”
The dinner included chicken and dumplings prepared by Catering, Etc. and serving provided by students and parents.
Stumpe commented that several past graduates of the K-8 school have returned to help serve on Saturday afternoon at the school and that was something he was glad to see.
