The City of Sullivan is expected to seek bids in early Spring 2010 for the East Vine St. phase two construction project that will include a new roundabout in front of Sullivan City Hall.
The project is being funded through the federal government “stimulus” fund at a cost of $699,733, not including engineering fees previously paid by the city.
According to Sullivan city engineer, Robert Schaffer, the project will begin on East Vine St. at McKinley St. and be completed at Hughes Ford Rd.
“This project will include new curb and guttering, sidewalks, pavement overlay and a new roundabout in front of city hall,” said Schaffer. “The city has paid for the engineering on this project, but the construction is 100 percent funded with stimulus funds from the federal government as long as the project stays within budget estimates.”
The roundabout in front of city hall will use yield signs rather than stop signs.
One-lane traffic will still be in place on West Washington going up to the Sullivan Elementary School.
The project is expected to be done in phases so as not to interfere with school traffic and cause further congestion problems in the area.
