The Sullivan City Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday night, Sept. 15, where they approved a number of items, including a consultant to help study water and sewer rates, and three ordinances.
The council approved a study with Carl Brown Consulting, LLC to provide a rate study on the city water and sewer rates at a cost of $8,860. The council is looking to reduce rates, if possible, and the study will provide several options.
Alderman Mike Ryan reviewed the city bills and approved payment in the amount of $965,398.21.
Ordinance 3360, sponsored by alderman Dennis Watz, approved a grant application through the 2010 Law Enforcement Block Grant to purchase portable radios, mobile radios and LED light bars for the police department at a cost of $8,723 with the city’s cost of $872. The ordinance was approved unanimously by the council.
Ordinance 3361, sponsored by alderman Jarrett Dace, was approved unanimously and will no longer require building permits for reroofing, siding or window replacements in the city.
Ordinance 3362, sponsored by Dace and approved unanimously, will provide modifications on storm water requirements for existing structures where expansion is created under 50 percent.
Alderman Watz reported that the home at 593 Sappington Bridge was being razed.
Alderman Tom Leasor stated he received a letter from Helen Clonts asking that the city contact rental property owners and notify them if the utilities to a home are being disconnected, to avoid pipe freezing issues in the winter months. City staff will review this item.
Alderman Paul McCulloch reported that, at the last meeting, he questioned what was going on with the former Ramada Inn.
Mayor J.T. Hardy stated that demolition plans were underway, but he would speak with the property owner to check on the status.
The council went into closed session to discuss one matter or personnel and four matters of litigation, with no results to report.
