The City of Sullivan is one of five municipalities/road districts to receive a portion of the Franklin County Transportation Tax and it has received the highest amount awarded.
On Tues., Oct. 6, the Franklin County Commission awarded the City of Sullivan $73,473.41 for the relocation of the North Outer Rd. project.
The award was recommended by the Franklin County Transportation Committee in which Sullivan alderman, Thomas Leasor, is a member. The funds are awarded through an application process by municipalities and special road districts for worthwhile projects in the county.
The funds are collected as part of the county transportation tax and then dispersed to municipalities and special road districts who apply and are found to be awarded.
The City of Sullivan is also receiving assistance from the Missouri Department of Transportation on the relocation of the North Outer Rd., which will completely change the intersection of the North Outer Rd., North Loop Rd. and the East overpass.
The city’s cost in this project is expected to be over $750,000 and is expected to begin in late 2011/2012.
Others receiving funds included: St. Clair, $57,609.84 for bi-directional left turn and traffic signals on Highway 30; Union, $51,765.36 for shoulder paving on Old Highway 50 East; Pacific, $43,416.11 for ADA sidewalks and storm sewer on Old Gray Summit Rd.; and Washington Special Road District, $37,571.63 for roadway widening and shoulders on Bieker Rd.
