Eagles Survive Fourth Quarter Scare, Win 16-14

CRYSTAL CITY — A three-yard touchdown run by Dane Paneitz with 6:34 left in the first quarter gave the Eagles a 6-0 lead.

Teddie Reed kicked the extra point,  making it 7-0.

The play was set up on an 86-yard reception by John Kopplemann.

UPDATE

A safety two minutes into the second quarter gave Sullivan their only score. The Eagles lead 9-0.

Quarterback Ryan Hewkin threw an interception late in the quarter, but the Eagles took the ball back on a fumble.

UPDATE

A 59-yard touchdown catch by Mayer with six minutes to play in the third quarter gave the Eagles a 16-0 lead after Reed’s extra point was good.

The catch came on a long third down after a personal foul by Cody Philpot.

Sullivan had no first downs in the third quarter.

UPDATE

Sullivan’s defense stopped Crystal City quarterback Neil Slabby short on a two-point conversion attempt to win Friday night’s game 16-14.

The Eagles gave up two touchdowns in the span of two minute against the Hornets, but were able to run the clock down with two minutes left.

Sullivan travels to St. Clair next Friday night.
